Bilstein label on the shock body should be upright.
Some customers may notice that the orientation of the protective boot on their new Bilstein shocks differs from the original equipment (OEM) configuration. In these cases, please follow this general rule of thumb:
The Bilstein label on the shock body should be upright and readable when the shock is mounted on the vehicle.
This orientation ensures the shock is installed as designed for optimal performance, ride quality, and long-term durability. It also helps protect your warranty coverage. If your shocks have been installed with the label upside down, we recommend re-mounting them in the correct position.
While the protective boot (if present) may be oriented either up or down depending on the application, it's important to note that:
-
The lower end of the boot typically features drainage or vent holes. These allow any water or debris that may enter to escape, preventing buildup that could affect performance.
-
Orientation of the boot may vary by vehicle, but correct positioning of the shock body (label upright) remains consistent across standard suspension setups.
Note: These guidelines apply to standard suspension applications. Bilstein off-road racing shocks or motorsports shocks may have different mounting requirements due to their specialized design and use case.
