Get accurate collapsed and extended lengths to ensure proper fitment and performance.
1. Static Measurement
With the vehicle on level ground, measure from the top mounting point to the bottom mounting point of the shock. This is your static height — and it will help calculate compressed travel.
2. Collapsed Length
Measure the distance from the bump stop to its contact point (e.g., control arm or solid axle).
Then subtract that number from the static height:
Example:
-
Static Measurement = 10"
-
Bump stop to control arm = 4"
-
Collapsed Length = 10" – 4" = 6"
3. Extended Length
Lift the vehicle by the frame or body — not the suspension — using a jack. Raise it until the tire just barely lifts off the ground.
Now measure from the top to bottom mounting points again — this is your extended length.
